IIA Armenia President

Ara Chalabyan has over 20 years of experience in internal auditing, corporate finance and operations which includes Central Banking, Financial Services, Mining, Trading, Education, NGO sector and volunteer work. He currently serves as the President at the Armenian Institute of Internal Auditors, an affiliate of Global Institute of Internal Auditors. In addition he is a short term consultant with the IMF, serves as an independent Board Member at Ararat Bank OJSC, writes articles and runs podcast on Youtube.

After serving for 10 years in the capacity of Chief Audit Executive at the Central Bank of Armenia he has challenged himself and his devoted team to transform former audit clients by uniting all support functions into one directorate – Corporate Services and Development with over 200 permanent staff. Functions included HR (turned to People and Culture), Finance, IT, Information Security, Facility Management, Physical Security, Project Management, Procurement, Business Continuity Management, Quality Assurance.

Mr. Chalabyan has a been sharing his knowledge throughout his career both internally and by teaching in training centers and for last 12 years at the American University of Armenia College of Business and Economics. He is a graduate of Fletcher School, Tufts University, American University of Armenia and Yerevan State University, member of Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Internal Auditors (currently serving as President of IIA Armenia) and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and has certifications (ACCA, CIA, CRMA, CRISC) from all three organizations. He has received teaching excellence, exam excellence, and publication awards.
